Evaluating foreign qualifications Germany

The new Recognition Act allows foreign qualified professionals to have the qualifications they have obtained abroad evaluated in Germany. It is not always necessary to formally recognise foreign qualifications. In those cases, companies can use the BQ portal to evaluate their applicants’ qualifications themselves. In the case of regulated professions, HR staff can turn to the portal to find out who to turn to with their queries.
The Professional Qualifications Assessment Act came into effect on 1 April 2012 and provides the legal basis for assessing foreign professional qualifications. Since then, those who have obtained vocational training in a non-EU country have been able to have their qualifications reviewed for equivalence to a German reference qualification. Also, as from 1 July 2013, the recently amended Employment Act will be making it easier for qualified professionals from non-EU countries to enter the German labour market.
The professional profiles serve as a basis for the professional recognition process between the foreign professional qualifications and the German reference qualification. The country profiles provide general information on the vocational training systems and help to put the foreign qualification into a context.
